I am a student at Kennesaw State University. I am currently majoring in Political Science with my concentration in Legal Studies. I value the freedom of the citizens of the United States of America that was given to me by our forefathers. I value the right to free speech, freedom of religion and the freedom to protest issues that strike fear into my heart. The one thing I value most, though, is the right to live without persecution from my government. There is an issue that has been striking this fear of persecution into my heart and now it is time to take a stand. I am absolutely disgusted with the introduction of SOPA and PIPA. These two acts are the end to freedom and a beginning of a nation quivering in fear of what their government will take from them next. When did our FREE country begin to use Big Brother techniques? How long will it be until the government takes ideas from the novel 1984 and begins watching us through our telivision sets? I don’t know if you’ve read the trilogy “The Hunger Games,” but you should. It will give you a pretty good insight into what our country will become if acts like this are set into place. I don’t want my children to live in fear of their government. I want my children to respect the freedoms that were given to them just as I do. The citizens of this very country were those who revolted against England when their control became too much. The people in this very country promised that for generations to come, not one other person would have to live in that world ever again. Just take a moment to think about what an act like SOPA or PIPA could do to our freedom and what our now free country could turn into down the road.
